The cost to enter the Horsham 2025 tournament depends on how and when you register.
The tournament is a mixed graded event — you’ll be matched with others of similar skill levels.
Depending on the number of entries:
All matches are played as best of 5 games, using PAR 15 scoring (first to 15 points wins). No need to win by 2 points — at 14-all, next point wins.
Every effort will be made to ensure you play at least 3 matches during the weekend. If you’re unsure about the format, the team at the control desk will be happy to explain.
Once you enter, please commit to playing all your scheduled matches.
The Tournament Committee reserves the right to re-grade or decline entries if needed for balance.
If you need to withdraw, do so at least 7 days before the event for a refund.
Late refund requests are at the committee’s discretion.
The VMSA is not liable for any injuries that may occur during the tournament.

It’s not every day I pencil my article from 25,000 feet whilst flying from San Francisco to Vancouver but as they say-there’s no time like the present.
First of all, my sincere apologies to Darren O’Neill and everyone who competed in Horsham recently. I had an obvious excuse for being unable to attend. I will endeavour to time my holidays a bit better in future – or maybe not. Hopefully, everybody that did compete had a great weekend despite the cold Winter conditions. A great opportunity to stay CLOSE together both on the court and around the fireplace or the dance floor. Our Horsham friends are such great hosts.
As the Australians in Perth are looming large, I again would say good luck to everyone who are making the journey across the Nullarbor in September to compete. If you don’t make it to Perth this year, then maybe you should consider visiting in 2026. Perth is the location for the World Masters Squash Championships in 2026 so it presents a unique opportunity for everyone to compete on a world scale. What an opportunity. I’ll put a note in my diary not to book a holiday during that time next year. It’s time to fasten our seatbelts now folks so I’ll bid you farewell until I return.

Sure, it is chilly, but we did not care. The courts were warm and Horsham’s hospitality was warmer than the courts. The 2025 VMSA Horsham Squash Tournament was held between the 25 to 27 July at the Horsham Squash Club, where we went once again to support local grass roots squash., The VMSA is always keen to support squash centres across Victoria as are Masters Players from other states including Tassie and NSW. Special mention to Mildura, Broken Hill, Benalla, Bairnsdale and even Poowong just to mention a few who travelled a fair way to come together for a weekend of competition, camaraderie, and celebration.
A total of 60+ players competed across 3 days of competition. The players had an opportunity to compete for prizes supplied by Smiths Lane Wines – thanks Smiths Lane for your ongoing support. We welcomed six VMSA “virgins” — players participating in their very first VMSA tournament:
We hope to see them at many more tournaments in the future. As a “Virgin” they received a VMSA Virgin voucher which allows free tournament entry to either squash.com.au Ballarat 21-23 November 2025 or VMSA Bairnsdale 13-15 February 2026.
A highlight of the weekend was the Saturday night dinner held at the Horsham Golf Course, attended by 60 guests. The evening was celebrated with an outstanding quality 2 course meal. The band (Head Rush) played beyond the cut off time, which was so great, but the poor bus driver had to wait for us to board the bus just that bit longer. Sorry!
Congratulations to Julian Smith for winning the Members Draw. Julian received 2 x dinner dance tickets to be used over the next 12 months valued at $120.00.
I would like to send my deepest appreciation to everyone who contributed to making this tournament a success:
The 2025 Horsham Tournament offered a perfect blend of competitive squash and camaraderie. The VMSA looks forward to continuing this tradition and welcoming even more fresh faces in the future. I think my report for Horsham has been very positive and supports the great efforts from the people who make our tournaments a success, but I have left out one of the best things that has happened inside the VMSA for a while and that’s the revitalised energy from Linda and Mark Thurkle. Thurks (Mark) is always ready to lend a hand to support his squash friends and completing over 100+ tournaments, there would be a few including myself. BUT team Thurkle now headed by our bubbly Linda has taken social media for the VMSA to a new level. Linda ran around at the Horsham tournament the whole weekend filming and connecting with players, also watching their matches and posting on social media, it’s a huge job and she nailed it. The overwhelming responses we have had via social media has blown my mind with some reels receiving over 500 views. Linda you are a gem, a huge thanks from us all.Check out all the videos on our VMSA Masters Facebook page.
